SEO Ranking Factors 2011 in Periodic Table Form | SEO in Simple Terms

SEO Ranking Factors 2011

If you don’t already know, Search Engine Land has published their own version of SEO Ranking Factors of 2011 in periodic table form. It’s pretty interesting and is quite different from SEOmoz’s Search Engine Factors of 2011 in terms of design and detail.

Just so you know, this periodic table is meant to be general. It was purposed for SEOs in general to see the big picture about the current ranking factors as of today. Not all SEOs appreciate to be very detailed and specific with their work. Some SEOs just like to do what needs to be done and see what happens.

So without further ado, here it is:

It’s not so hard to understand, really. As you could read the complete infographic on the sides and below. It’s a really good compilation and I should say a mighty well job to Search Engine Land!

How to ask God for a sign | God and you

We all want answers. We all want to be sure. We all want to know. So we ask, we think – we test the waters. Often before we make a major move in our lives, we ask God for a sign.

Questioning God“Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.” – Isaiah 7:1

Is it right to ask God for a sign? To test Him?

Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God.’” - Luke4:12 (NLT)

The background of Jesus telling this is when Satan was tempting Him to jump and to have God’s angels carry Him so that He will not hurt Himself when He falls. It is a selfish and pointless testing that Satan was asking Jesus to do.

But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.” - Isaiah 7:12

The background of this verse is that Isaiah was telling king Ahaz to ask God for a sign in order to prove the prophecy that Judah will not fall to the hands of Israel and Aram – both of which was already on the move to invade Judah. But Ahaz said that he will not put God to the test. But God knew the heart of Ahaz because Ahaz have already sought help from the king of Assyria and so he thought that he did not need God’s help anymore.

“Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also?” - Isaiah 7:13

How Schema Affects SEO | SEO in Simple Terms

SchemaSchema is the new way of Google, Yahoo and Bing to sort the whole internet out. It is a system that will make it easier for their search engines to identify what a site, or even a paragraph, is all about. So now that we know, the question to ask yourself is, how will Schema affect SEO?

A Different Kind of Code

One thing you need to know about Schema is that it isn’t something like Meta Tags. It’s much different from that. Schema codes are inserted into div tags and h1 tags and span tags. The way the Schema code is integrated is such that the whole HTML code will not be affected. Very nice.

Search is becoming more and more complex as humanity, technology, lifestyle and everything about our world becomes more complex. There are now more things and more categories than ever before. Schema is just a tool to help search engines know which page falls under which category. It is merely a helping hand for the big three search engines – Google, Yahoo and Bing. You can read all about their take on Schema here:

Google: Introducing Schema.org: Search engines come together for a richer web

Bing: Introducing Schema.org: Bing, Google and Yahoo Unite to Build the Web of Objects

Yahoo: Introducing Schema.org: A Collaboration on Structured Data

In Simple Terms

Schema is just a small piece of code added to your HTML that indicates to search engine what a certain page or paragraph is all about. There’s nothing magical about it. Google, Yahoo and Bing are using it to further enhance the artificial intelligence of their search engine.

The Schema code

<div itemscope itemtype =http://schema.org/CreativeWork> <h1 itemprop="about"> Why Schema Might be the Next BIG Ranking Factor</h1> <div itemprop="author" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Person"> Author: <span itemprop="name">Sean Si</span> (born <span itemprop="birthDate">September 6, 1988)</span> </div> <span itemprop="genre">SEO</span> <span itemprop="keywords">Schema, SEO, Ranking Factor</a> </div>

The Secret Behind Death | God and you

We all know that we are going to die. That’s a fact. And yet people nowadays live like there is no dying. We desire success, we want to gain fame, power, pleasure, riches – the world. Just how do we live through the paradox of life? Which is right – to live like there’s no tomorrow? Or to enjoy and focus on today?

Death Apple“Nothing is so important to man as his own state, nothing is so formidable to him as eternity; and thus it is not natural that there should be men indifferent to the loss of their existence, and to the perils of everlasting suffering. They are quite different with regard to all other things. They are afraid of mere trifles; they foresee; them they feel them. And this same man who spends so many days and nights in rage and despair at the loss of an office, or for some imaginary insult to his honor, is the very one who knows without anxiety and without emotion that he will lose all by death. It is a monstrous thing to see in the same heart and at the same time this sensibility to trifles and this strange insensibility to the greatest objects. It is an incomprehensible enchantment.”- Pascal in his book (Pensées)

In Light of Eternity

Men are mortal. Eternity is impossible. It’s that simple. No one can live forever. In the face of the Earth, everyone who has lived has died (or has disappeared). For us, death is reality and eternity is a myth. So we work, we play, we love and we create. We study, we tell tales, we make friends and explore. We do everything we can to live this life as much as we want.

We desire success – a word which has been variously defined by various people. For some, success is fame, for some, it’s status, for some, it’s money, for some, it’s love, for some, it’s charity. Still for some, it’s living life in light of the promise of eternity. Different people, different meaning, different directions.

But we all know we are gonna die.

How to Measure your Twitter Influence | SEO in Simple Terms

TunkrankTwitter is one of the most used social networking sites around. Measuring your Twitter influence has now been one of the things to look out for especially now that we know that Google is taking Twitter’s social signals into account.

There is actually a website that now enables you to roughly measure your Twitter influence. The metric name is TunkRank – something like Google PageRank but it’s used for Twitter. Interesting.

If you’re the type who likes to get your hands dirty on analytics, you should check this out.

TunkRank has two basic ideas behind their influence metric (taken from Trunkrank.com/about)

1. The amount of attention you can give is spread out among all those you follow. The more you follow, the less attention you can give each one.

2. Your influence depends on the amount of attention your followers can give you.

Your TunkRank score is a reflection of how much attention your followers can both directly give you and how much attention they bring you from their network of followers.

It Ain’t Simple Math

Measuring your Twitter influence is tricky. TunkRank seems to have pulled it off albeit roughly. They’re still in the tweaking stage – especially since Twitter has kept updating their API lately.

TunkRank has a pretty simple way of telling you solidly how influential you are. They have a 1-100 metric, in which case, 100 is the highest (most influential) and 1 is the lowest (least influential). The rate of influence doubles with every 7 points such as how Google’s PageRank score exponentially increases for every 1 point increase.

What’s the algorithm behind TunkRank? Well it’s based on Daniel Tunkelang’s proposed Twitter influence algorithm (taken from The War on Attention Poverty: Measuring Twitter Authority)

Internal Linking SEO | SEO in Simple Terms

Internal LinkingInternal linking is all about getting your webpages interconnected with each other. The world wide web is made up of links – you navigate from webpage to webpage through links. You recommend another webpage through links. But internal linking is more than just about navigation and recommendation.

More than just directions

Internal linking (or interlinking as I’d like to call it for short) is one method that SEO specialists use to distribute good, relevant Pagerank to each webpage that are related to each other’s content. Interlinking your webpages inside your website does not only help people find relevant content in the webpage they are reading, it also helps search engine spiders have an easier time crawling your website and seeing the relevance with each page.

Take this for example: You go to a comic store which has lots of other branches. You’re looking for the Ultimate Spiderman series – but they told you that they only have volume 1 in this store and the other volumes are in the other stores which you have to find out for yourself. Ain’t that a bummer? Why do you have to go to all the other stores just to find the other volumes when they own all of those volumes anyway? And why can’t they direct you to the other stores instead of you having to look for it yourself?

Copyright Laws

Since 2004, the overall music industry has decreased by 31% worldwide. The development and creation of worship music has also been affected within the church. In this session, we will tackle this question: What should a Christian do about it and how should the church respond?
