Where should you live? Condo or House?

I was talking with my dad about where it would be better to live in – a house or a condo? You see, I’ve been pondering this question in my mind for a while.

Condo VS HouseA condo has its own advantages – an installed security system, easier to maintain space, nearby places to buy necessities, free to use utilities, a ‘good’  view, and the list could go on.

While a house also has its own good sets of things to think about – your own garden, parking space, privacy and perhaps serenity from noisy neighbors (in a Condo’s case, neighbors can literally mean next-door tenants), bigger space to live in, and so on.

But the main things that I’ve been thinking about is my assurance of safety from natural disaster namely: Earthquakes.

How does Google Plus Affect SEO?

Google plus

As we all well know, Google Plus has now been launched albeit in testing phase. Even so, the search giant has now taken up arms against the social network threat which is Facebook. Now that social signals are a powerful means to enhance your SEO campaigns, the question is, how can Google Plus affect SEO?

Eureka!

We know all too well how Facebook affects search rankings with Facebook shares and Likes integrated into almost every website you land on. Furthermore, Twitter tweets from authoritative Twitter accounts are also measured in a way that is integrated into the search engine ranking factors of Google (and perhaps other search engines too).

Google plus is still pretty new but the way I see it, Google will really try to integrate the social signals they can extract from Google plus into their search engine rankings. Here are some of the reasons why:

It’s easier to measure social signals from Google Plus because they own it.

It’s easier to tweak stuff in Google Plus in order for them to get better social signals to integrate into their ranking factors.

People would be driven to use Google Plus due to the fact that it will have more bearing in search engine social signals factor.

15 Years to Live

When you’re a man who knows how long he’s gonna live. What would you do? As every year passes you by, you realize “I have 12 more years to live…” then another year… And another… King Hezekiah lived the last 15 years of his life knowing on that he was going to die soon. 15 last years to live.

15 YearsNo one Lives Forever

There is no definite time as to how long we are going to live in this Earth. Accidents happen. Unforeseen incidents occur. We do not know what the future holds. That is our life.

But what if all that changed? What if God tells you that your days are numbered and your life will end in a span of ‘X’ number of years. What then?

“In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. ” - Isaiah 38 : 1-5

Faith vs Knowledge

For us, to see is to believe. Because to see is to know without a doubt that something is true. You and I don’t like to believe what we do not know – because we’re unsure.

To see is to believeThis entry has been inspired by the words of a certain young lady

The fruit of the knowledge of good and evil has become the most formidable opponent of faith. We hate it that we don’t know. We abhor it that we do not understand. We are not secure of the discontinuing logic. We will not be satisfied with the unexplainable.

“Nothing is so formidable to man as eternity” (Pascal) – because we cannot understand it. For us, eternity is a myth and heaven is boring with the popular idea of singing praises forever. Some people would rather settle for here and now. Heaven is unknown – and will remain to be until we get there. For us, heaven is a matter of faith.

And yet nothing is so unexplainable to man as faith.

How do Transfer Switches Work?

Manual Transfer SwitchWhat is a Tranfer Switch? I bet if you’ve been living for a year in the Philippines, you’ve experienced at least once… nah, I’ll be kind to say at least thrice – of having power shortage or what we would normally call, “brown-out!” So when it happens, you slowly reach out for your handy emergency light to finish whatever it is that you’re doing. But what if you’re cooking using an electric stove when the power got cut? How do you continue? Or when you were watching a really nice movie and the hero was just about to save the day! You were left hanging because of the power outage – what do you do? How do you respond to your kids who desperately need to finish their homework with a strict deadline the next day? Answer: GET YOURSELF A TRANSFER SWITCH!

When we say ‘transfer switch’, we mean transferring power from one source to another. So we can say, from using Meralco power source, we now transfer source to your Genset or Generator. Now, having said this, we can get the logic that you can only make your transfer switch work when you’ve already bought yourself a reliable Genset. In choosing which Genset to buy, you first need to establish what percentage of Meralco power you need or want to work during a power outage. If this is inconvenient for you to compute, then you may just check what loads: wattage and ampere ratings of the appliances you need or want to work. After doing so, then you’re all set for your transfer switch.

Transfer SwitchesNow you may say what about the conventional “Double Throw Switch” that my friendly engineer-technician recommended? Well, aside from it’s unappealing in nature and the need to move the lever up or down; it merely makes up of a barrel bolt that highly risks the users’ safety. What do I mean? In light of a transfer switch features, let me help you understand. A transfer switch is a compact, light weight and very user-friendly mechanical device with a built-in interlocking system that does not allow you to switch on both your Normal power source (MERALCO) and the Emergency line (GENSET). Turning on the Emergency side breaker will automatically switch off the Normal side avoiding any faults on your power source that may cause extensive damage such as fire, explosions and the like to your main panel board. On the other hand, the Emergency side will have to be switched off first before the Normal side can be switched on. This will then be an advantage of the so-called Manual Transfer Switch (MTS). These are available in 2×1 pole, 2×2 pole, 2×3 pole, with models starting from 1A. How about the price you say? As we have already mentioned earlier, your Genset will depend on the loads you want or need to work therefore, the Transfer Switch also depends on the load of the Genset you’re using. So ultimately, the price depends on you. So now, be sure to inform your engineer-technician that you’ll definitely be using a Transfer Switch than a Double Throw one.

Link Search

Link Search

There are lots of ways in the internet that you can use to search for links – or what is more widely known as link search. Link search is usually done through advanced queries in search engines or using link search tools like SEOMoz Link Finder.

Link search is never easy – and don’t believe blog entries that tell you link search is easy. It’s not. Even when you get to find a link worth having, you’ll still have to negotiate with the webmaster in order to get it.

Advanced Queries

Or what we would like to call Advanced Link Search – is a method of link search using the search engines itself. When, for example, you are selling Bed Mattresses and you go to Google.com and type in a query such as ‘Bed Mattress links’ you won’t usually find websites where you can get bed mattress links from. That’ just won’t happen.

What is an advanced query for?

Advanced queries are used to narrow down your search into something more specific. Here are some of Google’s advanced query commands:

Search Service Search Operators
Web Search allinanchor:, allintext:, allintitle:, allinurl:, cache:, define:, filetype:, id:, inanchor:, info:, intext:, intitle:, inurl:, link:, phonebook:, related:, site:
Image Search allintitle:, allinurl:, filetype:, inurl:, intitle:, site:
Groups allintext:, allintitle:, author:, group:, insubject:, intext:, intitle:
Directory allintext:, allintitle:, allinurl:, ext:, filetype:, intext:, intitle:, inurl:
News allintext:, allintitle:, allinurl:, intext:, intitle:, inurl:, location:, source:
Product Search allintext:, allintitle:

Source: Googleguide.com

Some of the search operators indicated will not work if you put a space between the colon (:) and the query word.

There are so many search operators you can play with in searching for links. Note: I only included the search operators I think you can use in Link Searching.

allinanchor:

This search operator limits your Google results to pages that has all the query terms you made in the anchor text on links to the page.

For example: [ allinanchor: best bed mattress philippines ] – this advanced search query will return pages in which the anchor text on its inbound links contain the words “best”, “bed”, “mattress” and “philippines”

Link Search: This is a good link search strategy when you’re looking to find other websites to extract good links from with your desired anchor text in it.

Facebook vs Google Plus Project

Google Plus +

It’s pretty obvious that Google + is a threat to Facebook’s ever-growing base of users. The reason behind it is that Google + seems to be pretty much a Google version of a Facebook upgrade.

Well Facebook ain’t letting Google get their way that easy. What does Facebook have that Google doesn’t?

Data

Data of your established Facebook friends, contact numbers, email addresses, etcetera. For Facebook and Google who already have established systems and working business models, data means users – and users means money.

Right now Google ‘owns’ most of the web. They’re the biggest player. And being the biggest player, you want a piece of everyone else’s pie. We all know that Google tried to go social more than once or twice. And failed.

The thing I love about Google is that they are not afraid to fail – even fail big. They still try to win. And this time, it certainly looks like Google is going to make it.

Now that the Google + Project is out for a limited amount of users, it has alarmed Facebook that Google might just eat up some of their share of the social network market. So what did they do?

They blocked the data

Facebook emailThere used to be an extension in Google Chrome named ‘Facebook Friend Exporter” that you can use to export your Facebook contact details – Name, Email Address, Phone number, etc…

Unsilenced Longing

I have heard speakers declare, time and again, that the Christian life is not difficult; it is impossible. Many would think that the life of a believer is a walk in the park. At one point it was something I would love to believe – that problems would go away the moment I accept Christ. But it’s not. It’s a misconception. Christ never guaranteed convenience upon following Him.

Lonely CornerAuthor’s Note: This is based on a reflection on the book of Mark three weeks overdue.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. – Matthew 16:24

As I progressed in my walk with the Lord, this truth seemed to have become more and more of a reality. Discouragement in all forms would engage me – from ridicule to difficult circumstances; from VDP’s (Very Draining People) to dead silence and waiting to hear God’s voice. Often it becomes too difficult to bear, and I’d be tempted to become silent before God.
